University Book Donation Program for University Libraries

Vietnam

In collaboration with the Canada/Vietnam Education Network, since January 2010, the Fondation de la Chenelière has worked closely with the Singaporean publisher Cengage (formerly Thomson Group) to select a list of more than 250 subjects from the curriculum in Vietnamese universities.

More than 10,000 copies of these books have been shipped to the Vietnam National University (VNU). These books have been distributed to the libraries of several affiliated universities in the Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta region, including Tra Vinh University.

Vietnamese students can thus access high-quality books that will be of great help with their studies.

The Fondation is also in contact with other publishers such as McGraw-Hill, Pearson, John Wiley, Oxford University Press, and Elsevier to provide more books to more universities in Vietnam and in other countries in the region, such as Cambodia and Laos.

These book donations are made to the Fondation de la Chenelière, which then takes charge of all logistics and transportation related to the distribution of the books.

Cambodia

Approximately 20,000 copies of textbooks have been donated to the Royal University of Phnom Penh and Pannasatra University of Cambodia.

In Phnom Penh, the Sobbhana Women’s Foundation, headed by Princess Norodom Marie, focuses on the health and education of children and adults in her country. It has significantly facilitated the distribution of books throughout the provinces.

In 2025, a donation of over 25,000 children’s books from Second Story Press was entrusted to the Foundation, which shipped them to the Cambodian Ministry of Education in Phnom Penh for distribution to several schools across the country.

Scholarship Program in Vietnam

Thanks to the invaluable collaboration of Professor Emeritus Truong Vo-Van of Concordia University in Montreal and the University of Moncton in New Brunswick, the Fondation de la Chenelière maintains close ties with Tra Vinh University in Vietnam. This public university is located in the city of Tra Vinh, in the heart of the Mekong Delta. Founded in 2006, it has grown rapidly, offering a multidisciplinary program and playing a key role in regional socio-economic development.

The university offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs in numerous fields, including education, agriculture, engineering, environmental science, economics, health, and social sciences.

Since 2012, the Fondation de la Chenelière, with support from several donors, has awarded scholarships annually to approximately forty students at Tra Vinh University.

Each year, over one hundred applications are submitted to the Fondation de la Chenelière and each one is carefully reviewed and evaluated.

In 2025, 34 scholarships were awarded across various disciplines. All the students come from low-income families and demonstrate good or very good academic performance. We gave particular priority to two students with disabilities and several students from ethnic minorities.

Several current and former scholarship recipients have attested to the importance of these scholarships in their academic journeys. Through this scholarship program, the Fondation de la Chenelière helps make university education more accessible to young people, particularly those from the peasant and working classes in this rural region of Vietnam.
